Profile
I'm Sean Chen, a filmmaker born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. I create films and commercials centered around travel, technology, and daily life. Recently, I’ve been documenting Bangkok more closely, aiming to highlight and celebrate Thai culture through my work. Outside of filmmaking, I enjoy portrait photography, playing football, and exploring new places. The EOS 80D was the camera that first inspired my journey into filmmaking, so being part of this Canon campaign feels like a meaningful full-circle moment. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
About the Video
Letter to Summer is a film that follows a female main character as she discovers summer as a feeling rather than a season. The film explores how summer evokes a sense of curiosity, reflection, nostalgia, and quiet adventure through everyday moments and interactions with the city around her. I wanted the film to feel intimate and personal, capturing emotions in a gentle and honest way while expressing how warmth and connection can exist within simple moments.
Key Points / Highlights
My focus was on creating a simple, honest portrait film. The subject isn’t just the model, but the way she naturally interacts with her environment. I intentionally kept direction minimal so she could exist freely without overthinking emotion or performance. A big part of the process was building a comfortable, almost documentary-like atmosphere, where it felt like I was simply observing a moment between friends rather than staging a production.
How I used the EOS R6 V
I approached each scene with a loose structure of what I wanted to capture, while keeping the shoot mostly handheld and run-and-gun. This allowed me to move naturally between locations and adapt to spontaneous moments, especially when discovering interesting light or environments within the city. I shot primarily using natural light during golden hour to create a soft and nostalgic atmosphere. I also filmed in Canon Log 3 to preserve dynamic range and give me greater flexibility when color grading, helping maintain the film’s warm and cinematic tone.
First Impression of the EOS R6 V
I really enjoyed the build of the camera, especially the customizable buttons which made shooting very efficient and intuitive. The grip feels solid and comfortable, which gave me confidence during handheld shooting. Its lightweight design allowed me to shoot for long hours without fatigue, even in hot weather. I also didn’t need an external monitor, as the LCD screen was clear and sufficient for monitoring. Overall, it’s a powerful yet very enjoyable camera to work with.
