Profile
Videographer / Creative Director I’m a videographer and co-founder of a Perth-based media agency. My focus is on creating cinematic, story-driven content that helps brands build a real identity, not just chase quick views. I want my work to feel intentional, memorable, and like it belongs to a world bigger than one single video.
About the Video
The skate-focused brief immediately stood out to me. Skating has so much movement, energy, texture, and personality, so I wanted to find locations that helped bring that world to life and gave the camera a proper environment to shine in.
Key Points / Highlights
The creative direction was to make the video feel like a modern skate piece, raw, fast, and fun, but captured with a clean cinematic edge. The idea was to open with an authentic skate moment, then reveal the camera naturally through the action before transitioning into a fast-paced hype edit. I focused on showing different angles, movement, and camera placements, low angles, handheld shots, POV-style moments, and tighter creative setups, to reinforce how one small, lightweight camera can capture a wide range of perspectives without slowing the shoot down. The emotion I wanted to convey was freedom and spontaneity. The R50 V feels like a camera that lets you stay ready, capture energy as it happens, and make filming feel easy and enjoyable rather than overcomplicated.
How I used the EOS R50 V
Because I was shooting fast-moving skate action, the lightweight setup was a massive advantage. I shot mostly handheld, moving with the skaters and placing the camera in different angles and tighter spaces to capture more dynamic perspectives. It made it easy to stay flexible, react quickly, and keep the energy of the shoot moving.
First Impression of the EOS R50 V
My first impression was really positive. I haven’t used a huge amount of Canon cameras, so I liked how user-friendly the interface felt straight away. It was easy to get into the flow of shooting without overthinking the setup. The autofocus stood out, especially for fast action, and I also really liked the colours when grading the footage. Canon’s colour science has a nice character to it, which helped give the final video a polished but natural look. For another creator considering this camera, I’d say don’t overthink it, just have fun with it. It’s light, easy to use, has fast autofocus, and lets you focus more on capturing the moment rather than stressing about the perfect setup.
