About the Video

The Hotel” is a cinematic, story-driven short film about a couple planning their “perfect day” in Hawaii. But instead of building toward action, the planning itself becomes the conflict. This film is all about the inability to choose, even when everything is possible.

Key Points / Highlights

Knowing this would be an intensive "activity-based" project, we focused on pre-production the most. This mainly included scripting and booking travel/activities. Having a script early on kept us on track to know exactly what we needed to capture to bring the film to life.

How I used the EOS R6 V

With the amount of activities we had to do, we ended up keeping the camera extremely bare bones with an LP-E6P battery and mic. We primarily used the RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens. This lens is an absolute beast in the docu-style world. The camera and lens combo felt great in the hand and made shooting a breeze. We also wanted to capture some underwater shots, but since this is a brand new camera, proper water housings didn't exist for it yet. We ended up using EOS R8 paired with a underwater housing from external manufacturers and the RF20mm F1.4 L VCM to get our underwater shots. The 20mm provided a sharp low light look while not being too wide for the housing to cause vignetting..

First Impression of the EOS R6 V

The camera was unbelievably simple to use, and the batteries lasted quite a long time. We actually only had two LP-E6P batteries with us and it was always enough every day. 7K Raw at 60fps gives so much flexibility in post-production. And having the option to shoot in Open Gate really expands your shot potential. It's also a simple thing, but the grip feels great in your hand and the record button feels nice too. I was shocked at the image quality straight out of the camera, and the base ISO 6400 captured fireworks at night so beautifully. Overall, it's a super intuitive piece of equipment and at the price point, it's a no-brainer. This camera rocks.
