About the Video
Set in a near-future society shaped by technological dependence and growing isolation, The Companion follows a woman navigating a carefully controlled world where convenience and efficiency have replaced many aspects of everyday life. As subtle disruptions begin to challenge her routine, she is forced to confront questions about freedom, human connection, and the systems that quietly shape our lives. The film explores themes that feel increasingly relevant in our rapidly evolving world.
Key Points / Highlights
Our primary focus was creating a compelling story that could resonate with a wide audience while remaining visually engaging from beginning to end. We wanted the film’s themes of nature, technology, and social control to feel grounded and emotionally relatable rather than purely speculative. From a visual standpoint, we intentionally designed a world that would allow us to explore a wide range of lighting conditions, environments, and tones. The story moves between natural landscapes, urban spaces, interiors, daylight, nighttime, and practical-light environments, giving us the opportunity to showcase the camera’s versatility while supporting the narrative. We were also excited to create a project within the psychological sci-fi genre, which reflects the type of storytelling we are most passionate about as filmmakers.
How I used the EOS R6 V
We designed the film around the camera’s strengths, shooting in Open Gate to maximize flexibility for both horizontal and vertical delivery. We intentionally used a significant amount of handheld cinematography to take advantage of the camera’s In-body IS system and create an intimate connection with the protagonist. The two base ISO settings allowed us to move seamlessly between daylight, interiors, and nighttime environments.
First Impression of the EOS R6 V
What impressed us most was how naturally the camera supported the emotional and visual goals of the story. We filmed across a wide range of environments, from bright outdoor locations to low-light interiors, and the camera consistently delivered a cinematic image with rich detail and flexibility. The stabilization gave us the freedom to work handheld while maintaining a polished look, helping the camera disappear and allowing us to focus on performance, atmosphere, and storytelling. It felt equally capable during intimate character moments and larger visual sequences, making it a valuable creative partner throughout the production.
