About the Video

This film was inspired by a heavy rainstorm on the day of the shoot. It disrupted my original plan to capture “the colors of Beijing,” but as I was feeling discouraged, I suddenly noticed that the spring-filled park in front of me had been washed by the rain into a deep, ink-like green. That became the first “color” in the video. With this concept, I wanted to turn the everyday sounds we often overlook into a visual experience of color. Falling rain, rippling water, the sound of wind, crowds, and laughter all take shape as different tones and emotions, weaving together into a layered and colorful visual piece.

Key Points / Highlights

For this film, I focused more on pre-production and shooting than on relying heavily on post-production. I enjoy a more spontaneous approach to creation. When an idea suddenly comes to me, I first build a simple shooting outline, then let the concept grow and evolve on location as I film. I believe everyday life is full of small moments that quietly move us. To discover those moments through the camera, I experimented with different camera positions and focal lengths within each scene. In the edit, I paid close attention to how the shots connect, the composition of each frame, and the natural feeling of the colors. Because of that, I tried to capture usable images on set and avoid depending too much on post-production to fix the footage later.

How I used the EOS R50 V

For this shoot, I used the EOS R50 V with three lenses: the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM, RF 7-14mm F2.8-3.5 L FISHEYE STM, and RF 35mm F1.4 L VCM. I used the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM for a wide range of shots, from wider compositions to tighter details, while the RF 35mm F1.4 L VCM was mainly used for portraits and still-life close-ups. The fisheye lens was used to capture more playful and visually distinctive shots. I also made use of many of Canon’s built-in filters depending on the scene. They gave the footage a beautiful color and atmosphere straight out of the camera, making the images feel expressive even before post-production.

First Impression of the EOS R50 V

Although the EOS R50 V has a compact body, it delivers excellent performance. Even when shooting outdoors in rainy weather, it was light enough to use handheld with one hand without feeling like a burden. Most of the shots in this video were filmed by placing the camera on a tripod and filming myself, but even when I was moving, the camera focused on me quickly and accurately. Image quality also remained reliable in low-light situations, including rainy weather, indoor scenes, and nighttime shooting. The built-in filters created a strong atmosphere, and by matching them to different scenes, I was able to get expressive footage straight out of the camera. This reduced the amount of color grading needed in post and greatly improved my editing efficiency.
