Key Points / Highlights
In dance films, capturing the fluidity of extensive arm and leg movements is crucial. Rather than relying solely on post-production editing, I focused on using match cuts during the filming process. By aligning the transitions precisely at the peak of each movement, I ensured that the energy and rhythm of the choreography remained seamless across different scenes. This approach allowed me to create a natural flow where each action naturally leads into the next, preserving the dancer's original intent and the dynamic intensity of the performance.
How I used the EOS R50 V
The EOS R50 V camera and lens utilized RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ, RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, RF16mm F2.8 STM, RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, RF45mm F1.2 STM lens. For handheld shots, I utilized the RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ to execute seamless in-camera zoom effects during filming. The RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM was mounted on a racing drone along with the EOS R50 V for dynamic aerial perspectives. For character-focused inserts, I used the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z handheld to emphasize the subject. Finally, the RF45mm F1.2 STM was paired with a gimbal to capture stabilized, cinematic shots that focused intensely on the individual.
First Impression of the EOS R50 V
The EOS R50 V is a compact, video-centric camera characterized by its incredibly lightweight design. This portability allowed for seamless integration with a racing drone without any performance issues. For short-form content, its built-in 1/4-inch screw holes enable flexible mounting for both horizontal and vertical shooting. With a dedicated vertical UI and a self-timer function for video, it is an exceptionally versatile tool—serving as a reliable primary camera for solo creators and a high-performance sub-cam for professional directors.
