I’m a photographer who wants to turn the life of someone I love into a film.
About the Video
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve witnessed all of Amiao’s growth—except for her adolescence. That missing chapter feels like opening a book only to find that the beginning has quietly disappeared over time. To fill that gap, we dressed in period clothing and tried to reconstruct a version of her youth that I was never part of. At this moment, I deliberately stepped away from technical showmanship, focusing instead on capturing an intuitive, almost intangible atmosphere. I know I can’t truly go back in time. But the moment I pressed the shutter, within that soft, lo-fi glow, I felt as though I finally met her from that era.
Key Points / Highlights
I placed particular emphasis on handheld stabilization performance, autofocus accuracy, as well as how screen size and brightness support decision-making during outdoor shoots. Sharpness and dynamic range were also key considerations.
How I used the EOS R6 V
The project was shot entirely handheld, using PZ power zoom lenses for controlled zoom-in and zoom-out movements. The primary lenses included RF35mm F1.4 L VCM, RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ, and RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM. The decision to shoot handheld was intentional—to recreate the organic randomness and documentary-like texture often found in vintage footage. Using the EOS R6 V’s oversampled 4K and Canon Log 2, I captured the highest-quality source material possible. From there, I applied a “subtractive” approach—reducing sharpness and color while introducing noise and highlight bloom—to reconstruct a nostalgic, low-fidelity aesthetic from a technically high-resolution base.
First Impression of the EOS R6 V
What stood out immediately was the camera’s active cooling system, which enables 4K 60fps Fine recording—something that was difficult to achieve on conventional EOS R6 series. This significantly expanded my creative possibilities. Additionally, the streamlined body design, with the removal of the traditional “hump,” clearly reflects its identity as part of the Video (V) series. In terms of image quality, the film-like rendering of Canon Log 2, combined with its wide dynamic range and natural skin tones, allowed me to handle high-contrast environments with ease. Even with makeup, color fidelity remained intact, enabling me to reconstruct fragments of the past with precision and emotional depth.
